Getting started...

Well, here we go. This is the year that I turned 40. Some of my old friends have decided it would be cool to start a blog about things they want to do before they turn 40, a "bucket list" if you will. I am already behind since I turned 40 on January 7th. A lot of people think turning 40 is a bad thing but I disagree.
When I was 33 years old I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. That is a day I will never forget... as soon as I heard the word cancer I thought - this is it, I am going to die. I underwent 6 months of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiation. I was angry but had noone to blame for my anger. I became very depressed and was in unbearable pain. I can remember praying that the Lord would just take my home so my suffering would be over. Thank the Lord, my prayers were not answered. I had surgery to remove the tumor and things started looking up. In January 2005 I found out, during a routine pet scan, that the cancer was back and had moved to my liver. Things were different this time around. I underwent 6 more months of chemotherapy. My attitude was different this time around. I was Baptised and saved back in 2003 and I think this helped me deal better. I had a calm feeling this time even though the drs said my chances were not that great. Thankfully, I survived and am here to tell my story. I say that I have been given a second chance at life and swore I would live my life to the fullest. It is a great plan and I really want to but reality has made it difficult. Turns out I suffer from chronic fatigue due to all the treatments. So here I am today to say - NO MORE EXCUSES!
I will be making a list of the 40 things I want to do this year.
#1 Create a blog - its a first step
#2 Be more physically active, even when it is difficult
#3 Learn to (and do) forgive
#4 Walk the Survivors Lap at the Relay for Life event this fall

There is more to come...
